LIBOR Honors Veterans by Teaming Up With Rebuilding Together LI

June 1, 2010 - West Babylon, NY - In the spirit of Memorial Day, members of the Long Island Board of REALTORS® (LIBOR) donated their time and manpower on Tuesday, June 1st, to work in conjunction with the Rebuilding Together Long Island team to rebuild a decaying, dated wheelchair ramp for a home in Hempstead that houses disabled veterans. The installation of the new ramp will allow the veterans, some of which are wheelchair bound, to receive the medical attention that they need; enabling them to come and go from their home with ease.

The home, which currently houses up to seven veterans, has been run by the Interfaith Nutrition Network (The INN) for the past ten years. The INN (Interfaith Nutrition Network) addresses the issues of hunger and homelessness on Long Island by providing food, shelter, long-term housing, and supportive services in a dignified and respectful manner for those who seek their help.

In addition to helping Rebuilding Together LI on this project, earlier this year LIBOR donated $5,000 to the organization which will assist them in fulfilling their mission to help rebuild the homes and lives of people in need. Rebuilding Together Long Island is dedicated to restoring the homes of economically disadvantaged homeowners who are elderly, disabled, and/or single-parent families, so they may continue to live in comfort with dignity and independence. Their committed staff of 300 volunteers is the backbone of the organization. According to Sol Goldstein, “The generous contribution by LIBOR enables us to continue our efforts and help people in need. We provide a wide range of services which include plumbing and electrical repairs, yard work, tree trimming, gutter cleaning, carpentry, roof repair, trash removal, non cosmetic painting, lock work, smoke detector installation and the construction of wheel chair ramps. We are especially proud of our proficiency in building these ramps, which enable those people that are home-bound to enjoy their renewed freedom. All of the services of Rebuilding Long Island Together are provided at no cost to the homeowner thanks to generous contributions such as the one we have received from the Long Island Board of Realtors®.” For more information on this worthy organization visit www.rebuildingtogetherlongisland.org

On hand alongside the REALTORS® was Ken Grimball from News 12, who came out to cover the story for a news segment that was aired yesterday evening, he graciously rolled up his sleeves to join in the hammering festivities. Newsday featured the project as well; click here to read the article.
