The Long Island Board of REALTORS® (LIBOR) is proud to announce the launch of their 8th Annual REALTORS® Against Hunger (RAH) Campaign, to fight hunger in our local communities. In the months of November and December participating REALTOR® offices will be collecting donations of non perishable food items throughout Nassau Suffolk and Queens Counties. This collection drive will support efforts to provide food to hundreds of local food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and other programs that feed the hungry. “The holiday season can be especially difficult for our neighbors living with hunger and poverty. With more than 316,000 children and adults at risk of hunger each day on Long Island, the Long Island Board of REALTORS® is committed to helping provide critical food support to those in need and assisting our communities in the fight against hunger.” said Laura Copersino, LIBOR President.
To mark the launch of this pivotal program, LIBOR presented a $5,000 donation to Island Harvest, the largest hunger relief organization on Long Island. This sponsorship donation will be used towards Island Harvest’s Annual Turkey and Trimmings Collection Campaign, which will run between November 1st and December 30th at Stop & Shop supermarkets across Long Island. Stop & Shop customers can do their part in helping those Long Islanders in need, by purchasing a pre-packaged bag of all the trimmings necessary to complement a traditional holiday dinner. To participate in the Turkey and Trimmings Collection Campaign simply pick up a pre-packaged bag of trimmings at any Long Island Stop & Shop store, pay for it at the register and drop the bag in the collection box on your way out. This campaign will help many struggling Long Island families who may not be able to enjoy the warmth of a traditional holiday meal.
“For the past eight years it has been the mission of the REALTORS® Against Hunger initiative to not only raise thousands of pounds of food annually, but to bring awareness to the harrowing hunger epidemic on Long Island. Our continued participation in this program provides the opportunity for our members to help less fortunate families enjoy special holiday meals and be able to count on regular meals through the holiday season.” added Copersino.
LIBOR is honored to join community organizations and outreach programs such as Island Harvest, to inform and inspire our community to help combat hunger not only this holiday season, but year round. REALTORS® Against Hunger is a part of the Long Island Board of REALTORS® “We’re More Than REALTORS®” initiative, which supports numerous programs and charitable community organizations. The “We’re More Than Realtors® campaign was created by the LIBOR Public Relations Committee. The campaign raises the public’s awareness about Realtors® and their philanthropic efforts within their communities.
Island Harvest - Fighting hunger and touching lives, Island Harvest serves as the bridge between those who have surplus food and those who need it, supplying over 570 community-based nonprofit organizations on Long Island with critical food support to help stem the advancing tide of hunger in our communities. Island Harvest has delivered more than 71 million pounds of food, supplementing nearly 66 million meals, since its inception in 1992.
