The Huntington Township Chapter Donates $3,500 to Long Island Cares

March 2, 2012 - West Babylon, NY - The Long Island Board of REALTORS® (LIBOR) Huntington Township Chapter (HTC) recently visited Long Island Cares Inc. headquarters in Hauppauge to tour the facility and to present a check in the amount of $3,500, which was raised at their spectacular fundraising event this past December. The Chapter sponsored a special performance of “It’s a Wonderful Life” at the John W. Engeman Theatre in Northport; the event was a huge success with more than 200 guests in attendance.

This is the third year that the HTC has sponsored this special screening event, but the first year that the Chapter has solicited food sponsors. Pre-show cocktail hour was generously and deliciously catered by Besito of Huntington; during intermission, guests were treated to delectable desserts courtesy of Northport’s Copenhagen Bakery.

LIBOR and its Chapters are committed to supporting the mission of Long Island Cares, which is to bring together all available resources for the benefit of the hungry on Long Island; their vision is “a hunger free Long Island.”   Long Island Cares provides emergency food where and when it is needed, sponsors programs that help families achieve self-sufficiency, and educates the general public about the causes and consequences of hunger on Long Island.

In 2008 LIBOR’s Public Relations Committee mobilized a campaign, Realtors Against Hunger (RAH), to fight hunger in our local communities.  The RAH campaign was established for Long Island Realtors® to collect donations of non perishable food items during the month of September at various real estate offices throughout Nassau, Suffolk and Queens, in an effort to provide food to facilities such as Long Island Cares and other local food pantries, soup kitchens and  shelters that feed the hungry.  Thousands of pounds of food have been collected thus far, through the food drive and other initiatives like the Huntington Chapter’s fundraising event.

Cheryl Grossman, Huntington Township Chapter President said “Our 3rd Annual Engeman Theater Event was a big success!  We sold over 200 tickets – enabling the Huntington Chapter to present a $3,500 check to Long Island Cares and the Harry Chapin Food Bank. A heartfelt “Thank You” to all who attended and supported our efforts!  Our 2012 Engeman Theater Event features “Sweet Charity” and is on October 24th, so please mark your calendars now and join us in the fight against hunger!”
