LI Realtors® team up with Rebuilding Together LI to Celebrate Homeownership Month

On June 14, 2017, in honor of National Homeownership Month, a team of Realtor® Volunteers joined Rebuilding Together Long Island to construct a wheelchair ramp at a home in Amityville, NY.  The construction and installation of the ramp will allow the disabled homeowner to remain in her home of twenty years, and to come and go with ease.    At the end of the day once the ramp was completed an American flag was hung proudly to commemorate Flag Day and the freedom for which it represents.

In addition to contributing time, earlier this year LIBOR made a $3,000 donation to the organization, so they can fulfill their mission of helping to rebuild the homes and lives of people in need.   Rebuilding Together Long Island is dedicated to restoring the homes of economically disadvantaged homeowners who are elderly, disabled, and/or single-parent families, so they may continue to live in comfort with dignity and independence. Their committed staff of 300 volunteers is the backbone of the organization.  They provide a wide range of services which include plumbing and electrical repairs, yard work, tree trimming, gutter cleaning, carpentry, roof repair, trash removal, non-cosmetic painting, lock work, smoke detector installation and the construction of wheel chair ramps.  All of the services of Rebuilding Long Island Together are provided at no cost to the homeowner.

This donation was made through the Long Island Board of REALTORS® “We’re More Than REALTORS®” initiative. Created by the LIBOR Public Relations Committee in 2006, the “We’re More Than REALTORS®” campaign supports numerous organizations such as Rebuilding Together Long Island, as well as philanthropic programs and charitable community efforts here across Long Island and throughout the world.

June was designated National Homeownership Month, to recognize the many benefits of homeownership for our families and our communities. For generations of Americans, owning a home has been an essential element in achieving the American Dream.  Homeownership is often the foundation of security and prosperity for families and communities and an enduring symbol of American freedom.  The Long Island Board of REALTORS® is proud to continue our twelve-year partnership with Rebuilding Together Long Island, to help keep this dream intact for homeowners who face challenges in their homes.
